Nov 22, 2009 - Well once you learn about EEGs in detail and then see this video trying to make it look like this man is some kind of meditative guru when he's doing a fairly simple task it tends to upset you. Yes, it is an interesting video no doubt, but this man is trying to make it look like he is special somehow when he isn't.

Darkgravx12 Says:
Nov 4, 2009 - Same deal applies to theta, meta, and beta brain waves. We can control all these states. Course it is easiest to control the beta state of mind because we mostly generate beta waves during the process of conducting conscious daily activities (not sleeping or meditating).
Darkgravx12 Says:
Nov 4, 2009 - Near-death experiences, one can be medically dead for a couple of mins. and still be revived. For the most part this video merely pointing out that we can control our brain wave activity (make the brain generate alpha waves with meditation (while conscious) or during the REM sleep cycle (while unconscious) ). There is empirical evidence of this via brain wave monitoring.
mygodiswithin Says:
Nov 3, 2009 - Well, this seems impressing, but there is a cut right before he goes in to the "no brainwave" state. Not that I really think he's cheating let's be real and say he could be. You could also wonder why he keeps having oen hand on the back of his head at the place of some electrodes..? Isn't no brainwave activity equal to death?? while im writing, i have an interesting tip for you guys here. some new sound technology.. it's amazing.: watch?v=2_a-Yh5FTaE .

Nov 1, 2009 - i dont think STOPPING the brain waves was actually the point in the demonstration. So stop making that the argument. The point in the demonstration was showing how one can control the brainstates and recognize those brainstates.
v01d4d3pt Says:
Oct 30, 2009 - also it looks like he actually recalibrates the machine's zero level. When his hand hits the button the output reads very close to zero across the board. Looks like the key element for BS.
v01d4d3pt Says:
Oct 29, 2009 - interesting. Brain waves may not have stopped considering that the levels zero. While, there may be electrical activity below the machines interpretation of zero.

Oct 22, 2009 - I don't really understand the responses to this video. I found it fairly interesting, and yet it seems to elicit the sort of responses you usually find reserved for videos entitled "Look, real alien, video taped underneath my bed, ACTUAL PROOF!!!!!"But I don't understand why this video has received such comments.

Oct 20, 2009 - Ken Wilbur, the amazing bullshit artist! The device he's using is an EEG and the graphs are probably legit but he is not "stopping his brainwaves". This is actually a very easy task with two electrodes which is the setup that Wilbur is using. The fact that he is decreasing the amplitude so much also does not indicate that he is "turning off his brain". He's just a stupid new age hippy.

Sep 23, 2009 - Alpha and theta are good for both meditation and telepathy, depending on how one uses them. Get the neurotic beta and gamma out of the way and a great luminous space to you arises. Other uses for these states is the transmutation of fear and hope into true empiricism. There are various other uses that I won't divulge now, but only upon inquiry.

Sep 4, 2009 - This is awesome. I just ordered my own EEG machine with Bioexplorer. Alpha/Theta/Delta synchrony training will probably speed up my meditative practice significantly.Delta brainwaves are really interesting. I like the idea of them being correlated to 'unconscious' or 'psychic' phenomenon, and a mofd responsive and powerful sense of empathy or 'emotional intelligence'.

Sep 1, 2009 - It looks/sounds interesting but I would have liked to see him do other activities, like a Suduko puzzle, listen to music, eat food etc to see the machine work in a more varied way. I would also have liked to see a lay person or inexperienced meditator try the same experiment. And who meditates lay on a bed with one arm behind his head? This experiment has interesting implications but is totally unscientific and therefore asking for criticism.I like Ken but he seems a little dogmatic at times.

You already knew that Ken has no heart, now we find out that he has no brain, either! That's right, Ken can stop his brainwaves on demand. Actually—and in a more serious vein—this is the famous EEG machine recording where Ken enters various meditative states, one of which is a type of "thoughtless," "image-less," or "formless" state, whose correlate is that his brainwaves come to an almost complete stop, as clearly recorded on this portable electroencephalograph (EEG) machine. (This video is discussed in One Taste, April 10 entry.)We asked Ken to do a short 10-minute commentary on these various meditative states and the corresponding brain-wave patterns that are shown on the EEG machine in the video. Ken enters four meditative states (nirvikalpa closed eyes, nirvikalpa open eyes, sahaj, and mantra-savikalpa), each of which has a very distinctive brain-wave pattern. In his commentary, Ken emphasizes that the patterns shown on this machine may or may not be typical, but they do emphasize that profound consciousness states can be evoked at will, and these show immediate correlation in brain-wave patterns. If nothing else, seeing somebody's brainwaves flatline in about 4 seconds is a sight not easily forgotten! It also explains why we once heard Ken's girlfriend say, upon delivering news that she thought might not be happily received, "Now, um, honey, make your brain waves go to zero...."More seriously, as Ken often says, "If you want to know God, you've got to get your brain out of the way first. It's just one big stupid filter...." Less
