Nov 11, 2009 - Credible is to FOX NEWS asWMDs are to Iraq
bapyou Says:
Jul 30, 2009 - "(Bill Moyers) is not a believer anymore"Who are you to say what constitutes belief or lack thereof? By what criteria do you judge him?
bapyou Says:
Jul 30, 2009 - You dare to equate Henry Kissinger with the likes of FDR and Abraham Lincoln? You, sir, have a special place reserved for you in Hell.
bapyou Says:
Jul 30, 2009 - "Bill Moyers was EXPOSED by FOX news!"An expose by Fox News? Now that's what I call credible!"do you really have any clue to just how liberal he is?"Do you REALLY have any clue just how fascistic Fox News is? As Rupert Murdoch consolidates a greater & greater number of media around the world, diversity of opinion grows proportionally less. But keep sticking up for a LESS diverse range of opinion. If you don't, your world may just become too complicated for you to understand.
FLOxxxMOTION Says:
Jul 25, 2009 - @ jkiene: Individual freedom plays a major role in my definition of a high standard of living. I'm all for property ownership as well. However, Im not sure if "owning" is the appropriate term to describe the average American's relation to the house he or she lives in. Technically speaking, most peoples houses are owned by their bank. So we are talking about the illusion or prospect of true ownership at best.
FLOxxxMOTION Says:
Jul 25, 2009 - Now even this bubble has burst for many during the mortgage crisis because the system was simply not sustainable in the long run (much like many other aspects of the US economy). How much property does the average evicted family own now? Also you forgot to take the different building standards into consideration: What you call a typical American house might not even pass as a woodshed over here.
FLOxxxMOTION Says:
Jul 25, 2009 - Apart from that, I find average property size to be a really bad indicator for the comparison of living standards in Europe and the USA. Given the respective density of population thats like comparing apples and oranges.
FLOxxxMOTION Says:
Jul 25, 2009 - You may not have thought about it, but if for example every family in my city lived in a house with 1500 square feet of space, there wouldnt be any room left for roads, parks, schools, stores, restaurants or anything else. So that wouldnt really benefit anyones standard of living at all, would it?
FLOxxxMOTION Says:
Jul 25, 2009 - Americans on average also drive bigger cars, eat bigger meals and have bigger asses than Europeans. Would you derive a higher standard of living from these facts as well? You may have the space to support such irresponsible behaviour in the States and that would be fine if you found a way not to pollute the entire world and use up all its resources in the process.
FLOxxxMOTION Says:
Jul 25, 2009 - But if you tried to transfer this lifestyle to Europe, you would make a complete fool out of yourself, trying to squeeze your Hummer into the average parking space or your super-sized McButt into a public restroom.
FLOxxxMOTION Says:
Jul 25, 2009 - Where many people live close together, it becomes obvious much quicker, what kind of behaviour is sound and sustainable or not. From energy use to waste management: The people are immediately confronted with the consequences of their collective lifestyle.
FLOxxxMOTION Says:
Jul 25, 2009 - Im sure this also affects the way people treat each other and might explain why modern Europeans are generally more open to diplomacy than aggression as a means to solve conflicts. Even though our society is very competitive, the close proximity to ones neighbors might have led to greater social awareness and a sense of being in the same boat after all.
FLOxxxMOTION Says:
Jul 25, 2009 - How can a country have a high standard of living if the same cant be said about everybody that lives in it? In a truly rich country, the poor ought to be relatively well off, too. Otherwise it would merely be a country with some rich people in it. In what way would that be different from any third world dictatorship?
FLOxxxMOTION Says:
Jul 25, 2009 - You can call this position communist or socialist all you want. I actually consider myself to be more of a greenish libertarian, but thats beside the point. If you are interested in my political views and general attitude towards the USA, you can read about it in the comment section of my YouTube channel.
FLOxxxMOTION Says:
Jul 25, 2009 - You might be surprised to find out that I think quite highly of your country, or more precisely the values it was founded on. Ive experienced many cool things and met great people when I used to live and work there. So by no means would I call everything American bad nor do I consider everything to be just swell in Europe. Again, I have to refer to a Bill Maher clip, as he expresses my exact feelings much more eloquently than I ever could myself: watch?v=tcz_NHAFGS0
FLOxxxMOTION Says:
Jul 25, 2009 - Im actually all for equal opportunity as opposed to forced equality. However, if you truly believe thats what your country provides for its people today, I would seriously have to doubt your mental capacity. Videos like the one above should teach you how the US media distorts reality and keeps information away from you in order to serve the big corporations. Individual freedoms and rights are taken away from you piece by piece while you stand aside and wave your little flag.
FLOxxxMOTION Says:
Jul 25, 2009 - Like most Europeans (and many Americans) I have hope in Obamas ability to bring about SOME change and repair SOME of the damage done by the Bush administration. However, if he can actually afford to piss the corporate masters on their feet in the process remains to be seen. Best of luck to all Americans and the rest of the world
jkiene Says:
Jul 22, 2009 - Fact: The average middle-class American family owns a home with 1,815 square feet of space; the average poor American family has a home with 1,228 square feet. The average middle-class European family has a home with 976 square feet.
jkiene Says:
Jul 22, 2009 - I wonder if Bill would like to give up his New York penthouse and live like the majority of Europeans...in small apartments?
jkiene Says:
Jul 22, 2009 - Just say what you really mean...you want to redistribute wealth. Lower the standard of living so everyone will be equal, not just equal opportunity...but equal.News flash...Humans and the rest of the animal kingdom is competitive. Until you understand that fact, you won't understand capitalism. Equality doesnt exist, even in the Commmunist world...I believe in equal opportunity, not forced equality. This is the heart of the Liberal. Buy the way I'm stocking up on the Edison light bulb.
jkiene Says:
Jul 22, 2009 - My definition of High Standard of living is freedom from big govenrment, Property ownership, not apartment living. Not individual restriction. I hope you live in your lbeloved Europe...please move there if you don't live there now. I'll keep my standard of living here in the USA. America has redefined the meaning of Poverty. Go live in socialist or Communist World, please...
FLOxxxMOTION Says:
Jul 22, 2009 - The comment below is for jkiene, who said: "If Capitalism is Dead, why does the USA have a very high standard of living? Unemployement historically compared to the rest of the world is consistently the lowest of 95% of the world economies?" (see next page)If you are interested in a realistic yet entertaining view of the standard of living in the US compared to Europe, check out this clip from Real Time with Bill Maher: watch?v=yKS0yISz6xQ
FLOxxxMOTION Says:
Jul 22, 2009 - What makes you think that the standard of living is so high in the US? People are employed but get paid peanuts and have no health insurance. Have you ever travelled to the civilized world (i.e. Europe)? The unemployed over here have a higher standard of living than the average US worker. Also there are other factors that make life worth living: Free press, culture, a healthy people and environment, good education for all etc. The US is behind even third world countries in some of these regards.
jcatt500 Says:
Jul 19, 2009 - Mr. Moyer has a history that defends truth and democracy. Because of Mr. Moyers I learned the truth about war and peace. I will do my best to carry on his wisdom.
